For my first assignment, I wrote a press release for Neill's Coffee and Ice Cream about a fictional event celebrating National Coffee Day. The event featured free coffee giveaways to raise awareness among college students about Neill's, located in downtown Pullman. With three coffee shops on Main Street, I emphasized how Neill's stands out by prioritizing college students. The press release highlighted Neill's offering of five unique cold brew flavors to appeal to a student audience. This assignment took me approximately 2 hours to complete. I used Word to draft and edit the press release.

Comstrat 383 Pitch to Media

National Coffee Day Pitch

10/4/2024

For my third assignment, I created three media pitches to promote Neill's Coffee and Ice Cream's National Coffee Day event. I researched relevant publications and outlets that would likely feature the story. My pitches targeted The Daily Evergreen, a local newspaper; HerCampusWSU, a women-oriented news source on campus; and CougHer and WazzuChicks, a school broadcasting group and a popular WSU Instagram account. Each pitch was personalized to align with the audience and content focus of the media outlet, following best practices like keeping the pitches concise, newsworthy, and tailored. This assignment took about 4 hours to research and complete, and I used Word for drafting and email formatting.

Comstrat 383 Podcast PSA

Time’s Ticking

11/02/2024

For this assignment, I created a podcast PSA to raise awareness about the dangers of vaping, targeting teens and young adults. I researched credible sources, including the American Lung Association and KidsHealth.org, to gather accurate and impactful statistics. Using this research, I drafted a broadcast script in Microsoft Word that featured a strong hook, key points about vaping's health risks, and a compelling call to action encouraging listeners to seek help or more information. I also included sound effects and voiceovers to make the PSA engaging.

I recorded the PSA using the Voice Memos app on my phone and uploaded the final audio file to Google Drive. This assignment took approximately 3 hours to complete, including research, scripting, recording, and editing.

Comjour 333 Written #2

For this assignment, I wrote a feature story about my best friend, Hannah, and how Buc-ee's, the iconic gas station beaver, has become a symbol of our friendship. The story highlights our shared memories, how we bonded during college, and the meaningful gestures that strengthen our connection. I used vivid storytelling to emphasize the importance of friendship.

To accompany the story, I created an infographic using Canva. The graphic visually showcases key aspects of our friendship, such as milestones, shared interests, and the significance of Buc-ee's. I followed best practices for infographics, ensuring it had a clear flow, engaging visuals, and a call to action that ties back to the theme of appreciating meaningful friendships. This assignment took me roughly 4 hours to complete.

Comstrat 383 Fact Sheet

National Coffee Day Fact Sheet

For my second assignment, I created a fact sheet infographic using Canva to support my National Coffee Day event press release. The fact sheet highlighted key information about Neill's Coffee and Ice Cream, including the five cold brew flavors, details about the free coffee giveaway, and why Neill's stands out to college students in downtown Pullman. I kept the design on-brand by incorporating Neill's logo, matching colors, and consistent fonts. The fact sheet also featured two engaging images to make it visually appealing and reader friendly. This assignment took around 3 hours to complete.

Comstrat 383 Op-Ed

Whaling Endangers Oceans and Our Future!

11/17/2024

For my final assignment, I wrote an Op-Ed on the environmental and ethical impacts of whaling. This topic is important to me because it addresses critical issues related to marine conservation which I am passionate about. My goal was to educate readers about the consequences of whaling, including the decline in whale populations, disruption of ocean ecosystems, and threats to global conservation efforts.

I supported my argument with verifiable facts and statistics from environmental organizations and news outlets, ensuring the piece was both credible and compelling. The Op-Ed followed a clear structure: a headline to grab attention, a lead that introduced the issue, a body that presented evidence and expert opinions, and a conclusion with a call to action for stricter international regulations against whaling.

The piece was written in AP Style using Times New Roman font, and it took about 6 hours to complete, including research, drafting, and revisions.
